I created this abstract painting on a watercolor paper with acrylics, inks and watercolors. The painting is accented by black and/or white enamel paint applied in dripping manner which is characteristic for my Divertimento series. I enjoy the drip technique which was frequently used by Jackson Pollock in his action paintings.

Divertimentos – are mine small informal abstract pieces of artwork. They are mostly lighthearted and created to please and amuse viewers, although sometimes they contain peculiar messages and concealing symbols. Most of my divertimentos depict scenery or events encountered during my extensive travels.

Earth tone colors of Altamira drawings inspired this Divertimento. Altamira was described by Henri Moore as source of inspiration for the great artists like Miró, Tapies, Millares, Merz and Barceló, who were involved with The Altamira School. Great prehistoric drawings continue to be an inspiration to artists till these days.
Cave of Altamira and Paleolithic Cave Art of Northern Spain are on the World Heritage List.

I borrowed the term divertimento from music, because I like what it represents: “…an instrumental composition in several movements, light and diverting in character…” and that’s exactly what my visual divertimentos are.
